It is a great and wonderful thing to be able to go for a walk. Today’s workout wasn’t loaded with weights, push-ups, resistance bands, or anything of the sort. I took the opportunity to walk. This gave me a chance to not only get another 3 miles under my belt, but to also take the time to process a few things that had been on my mind.
I am 10 weeks into this journey and I am really proud of myself. Months ago, I had finally lost the ability to visualize myself walking or running any high number of miles. It was a very difficult time. I would start exercising for a few days, then I would stop for a few days. I wasn’t even breaking even! I became anxious and so badly wanted this weight to just fall right off of me. I knew this was far from realistic, but still..it’s what I wanted.
I know of people who have had weight loss surgeries and had some success with them. Something inside me always felt like I would have been cheating the process if I went that route. I don’t ask that anyone else subscribe to my mode of thinking, that’s just how I would feel. I respect the fact that others were not athletes.
Sweating and exercise are things that they would rebuke from their entire existence if it were at all possible. Still, there was a small part of me that would envy the fact that they had “won.” The struggle was over. No more being overweight for them. No more problems. Have you picked up on my sarcasm yet? If not, here it is. Weight loss is a lifestyle change. Lifestyle changes begin with a shift in your thought process. If a person’s weight gain is a result of social and/or emotional factors, the surgery’s will have a limited effect in my opinion.
The most important change anyone can make on the road to weight loss is to change their mindset. Once the mind is locked in and set on prosperity, it is inevitable that great things will also occur. I have read a number of self-help books that credit the same ability to attract finances into your life are the same principles that can also attract a healthier lifestyle. All you need to do is decide.
