Wow! Today’s run was part challenging, and all inspiring. I went out a little farther than I did last week, but still managed to run essentially the same route.

There are numerous mind games I have learned to play against myself to help increase my focus. You see, once your body gets to the place where it is physically able to run, the biggest obstacle you will face is your mental ability to endure longer runs. Take today for example. I ran over 5 miles. I always run with a set of headphones on, but sometimes my music gets confused with my GPS signal and it shuts off for stretches. I have learned to let my body go and allow my mind to go to other places. Often, I take the opportunity to reflect on solutions to problems I am having. I often refer to running as a time to meditate. There is a peace that comes about once your mind and body are in rhythm. You can hear your heart beating. You can hear yourself breathing. You can even hear the sound of your footsteps upon the pavement. There are other times when you forget that you are running. Those are the best. It’s as if your body is on autopilot and your mind checks out. It is during these stretches that you build the ability to run long distances. It will drive a person wild if they start running and immediately start looking for the end. There is so much to be learned during the run. Much in the same way, there is so much to be learned during the journey of life. They actually parallel one another. Now, this is not to say that running is the only way to reach this place. There are many. However, running is what I know, therefore, it is what I choose to speak on. Only a runner can understand the peacefulness that occurs to them while out on the route. Running is an addictive drug. Once you get the right dose of it, your body has trouble doing without it. Try it for yourself and find out.

Today marks my second “Big Run Saturday” that I have completed. Big Run Saturday is simply the day when I do a “big” run. This morning I ran 5 miles. This was a far stretch from having trouble walking around a city block. I am thankful for the mindset that helped me mold the ability to reach this milestone.

Last week I did 5 miles as well, but the terrain was much more flat. This week, I raised the bar a bit by taking on a few more hills. It was definitely a challenge, but I ran the hills instead of walking them. This definitely makes me realize how much of an impact the work I do during the weekdays has been. My body has definitely gotten stronger.

In addition, the weight loss has become more visible to me. That’s one of the reason’s I wanted to do a video blog about this journey. I had lost weight before, however, I didn’t keep a record of my progress, nor were there any photos or videos that I could go back to and visibly compare my progress. That won’t happen this time around!

Thank you for spending a little of your time with me. As always, remember:

Playing football at South Carolina State University gave me the opportunity to enhance my college experience. What I didn’t realize was how much it would have an effect on the rest of my life. I’d by lying if I told you that I was a star player who’s name was on everybody’s mind in the stands. I wasn’t. I walked on with no scholarship and made the team.

I loved every minute of it. From the long Tuesday night practices, to the bus trips up and down the eastern seaboard-the memories will always remain. What matters most were the times when you fought side by side with your teammates against an opponent. Win or lose, it was worth the challenge.

Football was one of my first passions and it remains that way to this day. Like many sports, the game, when given its proper respect, teaches about life and how to work hard to get the things you want out of it. Victories aren’t guaranteed. The only promise is that if you work hard, you will build character. That character can take you far in life. At least that has been the case for me.

These are the memories that charge me up when get out and exercise. I know what it’s like to be in 105 degree heat with an extra 25lbs of football gear on. I know what its like to be completely exhausted, yet you find the will to push forward because you knew that your teammates were depending on you. I know what it’s like to be down in a game with all but a thread of hope is left and to take that thread, use it as a lifeline and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Fifteen years later, I still dream that it’s game day and we’re about to go into battle! Even now while writing this post, I get so excited. There will always be a part of me that wishes he could just get one more play….one more chance to wear the garnet and blue and go to battle with my guys! Since I know this won’t happen, I have learned to redirect my energy and pour it into my effort to lose weight and share my story as I seek to motivate others into doing the same. Enjoy the other videos and be sure to leave a comment!

A major piece of losing weight that seems to get past me from time to time is how I am eating. This is probably my biggest hurdle. Believe it or not, running long distances is easier than achieving the self discipline it takes to consistently eat healthy.

My objective now is to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables in my diet. I have to make a concentrated effort to do so. What can and will help though is a Nutrilite product called Concentrated Fruit and Vegetable Tablets.

Nutrilite Vitamins and Supplements are fast becoming by biggest allies in this battle to lose weight. The offer a safe, affordable and convenient solution to my desire to add more fruit and vegetables to my diet. I will definitely keep you posted on my progress in the coming weeks.

Making the video above was a joy. I never did anything like this before. I will cover more aspects of this journey as we continue. Some are well within my comfort zone, while others are fast approaching. Thank you once again for spending some time with me. Bye for now…

Vitamins and supplements have played a major part in my weight loss journey over the past six weeks. I begin my day with Double X, a multi-vitamin cocktail the that has been tailored for optimal health.

Trust me when I tell you that I have a good handle on my weight loss journey. I’m not saying that every day is perfect. However, after trying and failing so many times, I have taken in an abundance of information.

There are several key components to healthy weight loss. Exercise, rest, diet and mind-set are alway at the top of that list for me. My focus in this blog post is diet. Moreso in terms of supplements.

Vitamins and supplements have played a major part in my weight loss journey over the past six weeks. I begin my day with Double X, a multi-vitamin cocktail the that has been tailored for optimal health. This Multi delivers power-packed levels of essential vitamins and minerals, with natural plant concentrates that deliver broader antioxidant protection and unbeatable health benefits. It also helps unlock energy stores. Double X is also certified kosher and halal.

Rhodiola is designed to help maximize mental and physical performance during exercise. Research suggests that it may also shorten recovery time after exercise by improving your body’s stress response system. As you have watch me exercise and sweat in the videos, and work myself to the point of exhaustion-I needed something that would restore my energy and mental clarity. Nutrilite makes such a product called Rhodiola.

I have been using it after my workouts to give me a boost. It’s been six weeks and my proof is in the distance I have grown to run and the increase I have had in the weight room. That’s all the proof I need. Double X and Rhodiola are only a couple of products I will be using. So far, these have been my starting points. I will definitely keep you updated on what more I bring into my diet. Stay tuned!
